Summary

"Step inside a fairy tale。"--Stephanie Garber, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Caraval

Get swept away by the New York Times bestseller that Melissa Albert, author of The Hazel Wood, calls "eerie" and "lovely。" As one by one her beautiful sisters mysteriously die on their isolated island estate, Annaleigh must unravel the curse that haunts her family。 Be careful who you dance with。。。

In a manor by the sea, twelve sisters are cursed。

Annaleigh lives a sheltered life at Highmoor with her sisters and their father and stepmother。 Once there were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls' lives have been cut short。 Each death was more tragic than the last--the plague, a plummeting fall, a drowning, a slippery plunge--and there are whispers throughout the surrounding villages that the family is cursed by the gods。

Disturbed by a series of ghostly visions, Annaleigh becomes increasingly suspicious that her sister's deaths were no accidents。 The girls have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn't sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts。 Because who--or what--are they really dancing with?

When Annaleigh's involvement with a mysterious stranger who has secrets of his own intensifies, it's a race to unravel the darkness that has fallen over her family--before it claims her next。 House of Salt and Sorrows is a spellbinding novel filled with magic and the rustle of gossamer skirts down long, dark hallways。 Get ready to be swept away。

"An eerie, lovely Twelve Dancing Princesses retelling full of ghosts and gods and a fascinating waterfront world and I'm reading it from behind my fingers。"--Melissa Albert, New York Times bestselling author of The Hazel Wood

WOW that was a rollercoaster。。。。。IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE SO GOOD

I loved the atmosphere of this book and all the spooky stuff that was happening。 I think for a fairytale reatelling it was very well done and put an interesting spin on the original。 My only issues were that it was quite a slow burn read, the relationship felt a bit insta- lovey to me, and the reveals at the end were a bit dissapointing for me。 Overall, it was a unique and fun read but not something I'll probably reach for again anytime soon。 I loved the atmosphere of this book and all the spooky stuff that was happening。 I think for a fairytale reatelling it was very well done and put an interesting spin on the original。 My only issues were that it was quite a slow burn read, the relationship felt a bit insta- lovey to me, and the reveals at the end were a bit dissapointing for me。 Overall, it was a unique and fun read but not something I'll probably reach for again anytime soon。 。。。more

This book was a rollercoaster。 I just was unable to put it down。 Every assumptions I had were proven wrong。 I wanted to scream at times and was really spooked and t others。 It’s truly one of the books I enjoyed the most this year。

fantasy retelling of the twelve dancing princesses with horror? HECK YEAH。 this creeped me out, gave me chills and blew my mind。 One of the most insane books I’ve read; the plot twists were coming one after the other and the ending was truly beautiful。。 so worth it!

I really enjoyed this dark, fairytail so much! It took me a little bit to get into it, but once it caught me I was stuck。 I HAD to finish! I loved all the twists and turns and I honestly had no idea how it was going to end, I was invested up until the very end。

woah。ok, so this book BLEW me away。 The ending was definitely NOT what I was expecting。 This is a fast-paced beautiful eerie story! If I read this at night I don't think I would be able to fall asleep! I loved the storyline, but I think the ending was a little bit weird and confusing because it was so different from the rest of the story。 Other than that, it was SO ADDICTING! I loved the world building and mysteries in this story at the beginning, but the last 20% of this book was a disaster。 I have nothing good to say about the end。 Not even the love story was believable。 Ruined the whole book。

The ~spooky~ scenes are absolutely top notch with this one! Erin A。 Craig is not messing around when it comes to those, it might make some more horror sensitive readers want to sleep with lights on。。。 This honestly would have been a solid 3。5 if it weren't for the instalove- basically one two minute conversation with the guy and our main character is obsessed for the rest of the book。 i honestly had to skip through those parts I was cringing so hard。 The ~spooky~ scenes are absolutely top notch with this one! Great book。 The writing was fluid and engaging and I couldn't put it down。 I enjoyed the big twist at the end and honestly did not expect the villian to be who it was。 Definitely worth the read, but heads up, there's some gory bits toward the end。 Great book。 The writing was fluid and engaging and I couldn't put it down。 I enjoyed the big twist at the end and honestly did not expect the villian to be who it was。 Definitely worth the read, but heads up, there's some gory bits toward the end。 。。。more

I really really really really really wanted to like this book。 I tried several times in the past 3 days to read it。 I just couldn’t find a footing。 I wanted it to be epic and scary and intense and mysterious and all the things。 Hell I would have even settled for good。 It wasn’t even interesting。 I gave up after an hour into the book。 Life is just too short for a bad story。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️Book Master⭐️⭐️⭐️My favorite part of this book is that I could return it and get my audible credit back for another bo I really really really really really wanted to like this book。 I tried several times in the past 3 days to read it。 I just couldn’t find a footing。 I wanted it to be epic and scary and intense and mysterious and all the things。 Hell I would have even settled for good。 It wasn’t even interesting。 I gave up after an hour into the book。 Life is just too short for a bad story。 ⭐️⭐️⭐️Book Master⭐️⭐️⭐️My favorite part of this book is that I could return it and get my audible credit back for another book。 ;) 。。。more

I found this book so fascinating and addicting。 I was pulled in from the very beginning and could not get enough! The mystery and the creepiness of the story was so well done。 I actually felt like this read as more of an adult book than many other YA's I've read。 I am not one to read many eerie books, so I found this to be quite creepy but I enjoyed it。 I really couldn't solve what was going on and was constantly surprised。 I thought the amount of twists and turns was well done although I would I found this book so fascinating and addicting。 I was pulled in from the very beginning and could not get enough! 4。5。。。 It’s been a long time since I have been completely engrossed in a book from start to finish。 I snuck in reading a page here and there any chance I could。 The ending was a bit rushed and could have use just a bit more polish。。。 but honestly that is a very minor qualm in the grand scheme of things, the whole story was amazingly fun, the perfect amount of creepy and completely un-put-downable。 This is a retelling of the 12 dancing princesses combined with horror mystery thriller mythology gh 4。5。。。 It’s been a long time since I have been completely engrossed in a book from start to finish。 I snuck in reading a page here and there any chance I could。 The ending was a bit rushed and could have use just a bit more polish。。。 but honestly that is a very minor qualm in the grand scheme of things, the whole story was amazingly fun, the perfect amount of creepy and completely un-put-downable。 This is a retelling of the 12 dancing princesses combined with horror mystery thriller mythology ghost story! It sounds like a lot smashed together but it totally worked for me。 Analeigh is the middle sister and we follow her throughout the story。 She has 12 sisters but straight off you are at a funeral for one of her sisters and she has already mourned 3 others plus her mother。 Because of all this death that surrounds them they begin to believe there is a curse on them。 But Analeigh thinks it’s more sinister than that, she believes they have been murdered。 The world that the story builds is beautiful with their own myths and gods and a great creepy element of ghosts。 My head was reeling constantly trying to figure out what was going on and I swear I changed my mind every other page。 It felt a bit like I was playing the game Clue。It’s YA but I didn’t think it read like a typical YA。 While Analeigh tempted to crack the case, blaming people and feeling silly when she was wrong, I never once felt she was being dumb about it or angry that she wasn’t seeing the obvious。。。 I was right there with her not knowing who to trust! Even the small romance element wasn’t annoying or even the main focus of the story。 I don’t see why anyone wouldn’t enjoy reading this。 。。。more

3。5 starsI read this all in one sitting! The environment created in this book is incredibly alluring。 Annaleigh’s grief is woven into so much of the writing, and that is my favorite part。 The plot was fast moving (and a little too convenient) but it was interesting to the end。 This author has created a truly unique retelling。 The story felt completely new and interesting。 Even though i knew the stepmother would be the villain, i couldnt help but be drawn to her character and question the integri 3。5 starsI read this all in one sitting! A retelling of the Grimms' Fairy Tales "Dancing Princesses" story that was cute, but not as much of a mystery as I expected。 There was a twist at the end because it deviated a bit from the original telling。 I wasn't super invested in the characters and found them a little boring。 There wasn't a ton of action and the story moved。。。not forward。。。but wasn't entirely stagnant, because of the scenes each night where the sisters go dancing。 There is a question throughout the story about why the sister A retelling of the Grimms' Fairy Tales "Dancing Princesses" story that was cute, but not as much of a mystery as I expected。 There was a twist at the end because it deviated a bit from the original telling。 I wasn't super invested in the characters and found them a little boring。 There wasn't a ton of action and the story moved。。。not forward。。。but wasn't entirely stagnant, because of the scenes each night where the sisters go dancing。 There is a question throughout the story about why the sisters ending up dead and getting an answer to that was my main motive for continuing。 That being said, the book was peppered with aspects of the murder, but it felt like there was way more focus on the sisters going dancing than there was on the potential crime, at least until the end of the book。 Not great, not terrible。 I was a bit disappointed because I usually love new versions of Grimms' Fairy Tales。 Not a book I would highly recommend to an adult though。 It was clear of any intense romantic scenes so this is definitely suited for a younger crowd。 。。。more

The story itself was interesting。 I loved how it made us think the main character was going mad。 It did feel like the author didn’t know how to end the story。

This was an interesting book and the entire time I had no clue what to think of it but I just wanted to read more so that I could find out what was going on。 The writing somehow kept me engaged despite it lacking an obvious plot line, and the story and theme was interesting enough that I wanted to know more。 This is a story about a girl who's sisters keep dying left and right and they begin to believe the their family is cursed。 And basically she is trying to figure out what is really happening This was an interesting book and the entire time I had no clue what to think of it but I just wanted to read more so that I could find out what was going on。 The writing somehow kept me engaged despite it lacking an obvious plot line, and the story and theme was interesting enough that I wanted to know more。 This is a story about a girl who's sisters keep dying left and right and they begin to believe the their family is cursed。 And basically she is trying to figure out what is really happening and save her family。 There are some fun spooky moments, some nonsensical stuff, some romany stuff, and some mystery stuff。 This is another book that I enjoyed but I didn't love。 GRANTED I feel like this is the type of book that would be enjoyable to read a second time to see if you can make more sense of it the second time around。 Some stuff didnt make sense, some stuff was annoying or felt stupid and some of it was really interesting or fun/spooky。 I dont know。。 。。。more

I have loved fairy tales since I was a little girl。 The tale of the 12 Dancing Princesses is probably my favorite fairy tale。 House of Salt and Sorrows is a fairy tale retelling of that story。 I could definitely feel the otherworldliness you get from a fairy tale, and the romance, and the happily ever after (but I was worried about this one for a minute)。 But there were parts of this story that actually gave me nightmares - it was incredibly dark in places。 Of course, that only added to the stor I have loved fairy tales since I was a little girl。 The tale of the 12 Dancing Princesses is probably my favorite fairy tale。 House of Salt and Sorrows is a fairy tale retelling of that story。 I could definitely feel the otherworldliness you get from a fairy tale, and the romance, and the happily ever after (but I was worried about this one for a minute)。 But there were parts of this story that actually gave me nightmares - it was incredibly dark in places。 Of course, that only added to the story。 As a high school librarian, I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to recommend it to my students。 。。。more
